Reducing Environmental Impact Across Our Business
Safelab recognises its responsibility to reduce environmental impact across our operations, supply chain and customer support. From measuring our carbon footprint to improving packaging, reducing travel and helping customers use fume cupboards more efficiently, we are taking practical steps towards long-term environmental improvement.
Our sustainability commitments
As part of our sustainability work, Safelab has measured its carbon footprint and joined wider initiatives designed to support long-term carbon reduction.
Measured carbon footprint
Safelab has calculated a verified carbon footprint through SWMAS’s Make it Net Zero Programme, helping us identify our business emissions and areas for improvement.
Net Zero commitment
As a signatory member of the Network Net Zero Community, Safelab is committed to achieving Net Zero no later than 2050.
2030 reduction target
Safelab is targeting a 50% reduction in emissions by 2030, in line with the Science Based targets referenced by the UNFCCC.
What we are doing now
We are already making operational changes to reduce waste, cut unnecessary travel, improve energy efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of our day-to-day work.
Reducing packaging waste
We are reviewing product packaging and looking for ways to use recyclable materials and reduce unnecessary waste.
Reducing engineer mileage
We are plotting product and service order locations to help reduce engineer mileage and fuel consumption where possible.
Supporting energy-efficient use
We advise customers on more efficient ways to use their fume cupboards and reduce avoidable energy consumption.
Using recycled paper
We have replaced printer paper with recycled paper and encourage employees to print only when necessary.
Reducing building energy use
We have reduced building energy consumption by using sensor-controlled LED lighting.
Digitising engineer paperwork
We have replaced engineers’ paperwork with digital submissions to reduce paper use and improve efficiency.

Supporting customers with more efficient laboratories
Sustainability is not only about our own operations. Fume cupboards can be energy-intensive pieces of laboratory equipment, so the way they are specified, installed, used and maintained can make a meaningful difference to long-term performance and energy use.
Safelab supports customers by advising on efficient fume cupboard use, suitable specification, servicing and ongoing maintenance.
Specification advice
We help customers choose suitable fume cupboard solutions for their application, space and usage requirements.
Efficient use guidance
We advise customers on ways to use fume cupboards efficiently while maintaining safe working practices.
Service and maintenance
Regular service and maintenance can help keep fume cupboards operating effectively throughout their working life.
Environmental policy and evidence
We aim to make our sustainability commitments clear, practical and evidence-based. You can view our environmental policy and supporting documentation below.
