We are delighted to have installed 54 Airone 1800XP fume cupboards, manufactured at our facility in North Somerset, at the new Loughborough University STEMLab. The £17m building will provide 3,500m2 of modern, energy efficient, shared science and engineering teaching laboratories, incorporating a 364m2 synthesis facility on Level 2, where 38 of the fume cupboards are located. The 1800mm wide Airone 1800XP fume cupboard will enable students to work in pairs, optimising the use of space and allowing students to maximise their hands-on experience in all aspects of fundamental chemical principles. We have also installed Airone XP fume cupboards in the Chemistry, Materials and Biosciences and Bioengineering Laboratories in the new building. Four of the fume cupboards are equipped with DDA compliant height adjustable stands for wheelchair users, and all have fire protection systems.
Energy saving features include variable air volume (VAV) control, which adjusts the air flow as each fume cupboard sash is raised and lowered. Additionally the fume cupboards are equipped with PIR motion sensors, which alarm when a fume cupboard is unattended and its sash is not fully lowered to alert the user to lower the sash and save energy.
The Government has recently re-emphasised the importance of STEM subjects in its industrial strategy, and the new state-of-the-art facility will produce highly skilled and highly employable graduates. We are delighted Safelab Airone XP fume cupboards were specified for this prestigious new building, and, in manufacturing and installing the fume cupboards at STEMLab, we are proud to have played our part in the training of future generations of scientists.
